Men’s waxing has increased, the market is currently hotter than cryptocurrency.
If you are hesitant to introduce men’s waxing to your waxing menu because you fear male bikini waxing, just keep it simple. Start with the basics for men like the back, ears, nose and eyebrows. Brows and back, the perfect gentlemen’s package. Adding back waxing to the menu is a smart idea, and lucrative. Once you master how to do it, it becomes a quick and easy service.
How confident do you feel in your back waxing skills? Brand new and petrified? Or GOAT status?
Either way, here are 3 steps to a foolproof back wax.
1.Select the best wax
Wax on, wax off, isn’t all wax the same? Well, no. Wax comes in many textures, scents, and types for specific needs. The back is a large area that will require longer application strips. In addition, the back might be sensitive. You could opt for a strip wax, but hard wax is much more comfortable for the client. It is important to use the highest quality wax.
Cirépil by Perron Rigot HOMME (sounds like ‘oh-mm’) is the best men’s professional wax. It is a deep green color with a clean crisp marine scent. A strong wax and easy to use. Formulated specifically for men who may have more coarse and dense hair on their back. Homme is a gel wax, easy to apply and remove. Like all Cirépil wax, it leaves behind no sticky residue and the skin is left looking beautiful and healthy.
2. Technique
When using Cirépil hard stripless wax beads, apply the wax in the direction of hair growth and remove in the opposite direction staying close and parallel to the body. For the client’s comfort, apply a light pressure to the area with your hand after removing the wax strip.
Start with the center of the back. Start from the top of the back and work down the middle of the back to the waist. Typically, this will be 2 or 3 strips of wax. This will create a hair-free area when removing the side strips which saves time and makes for a more comfortable experience for your client.
Next, apply the side strips from the side of the body towards the center. Apply one strip at a time if you are a beginner. If you are a rock star waxer, apply 3 strips leaving space between the strips, working methodically from the top of the back to the waist.
Then apply strips to the space that was left between the previous strips. Usually, this will be required about 6 strips per side. Most importantly, be sure to remove the hair to just below the waist band to avoid a line of hair left behind. When applying the wax from the side of the body to the center of the back, do not start too far down on the side. If you start too far down on the side, you may inadvertently remove hair from the front of the body leaving a bald spot on the chest, especially if the client has chest hair.
Recap;
- Apply 2 strips down the middle of the back, from the top to waist.
- Apply 6 alternating side strips from side of body to center of the back.
- And…done.
- 15 minutes is what you can book for the service. Of course, consult with your guest regarding the shoulders which will add additional time.
3. Post back wax
After the waxing is complete, massage in a quarter size of the Cirépil Post Refreshing Gel.
Advise of the importance of at-home exfoliation to avoid breakouts. Skip the beach and the gym for the first 24 hours after waxing.
First time back wax clients are more prone to breakouts. Exfoliation and consistent wax appointments every 4 weeks will clear up the issue (pun intended). The hair will become finer, the hair follicle will decrease in size and the area will adjust to waxing. After an average of 3 appointments, breakouts post waxing will no longer be an issue.
