‘While using hard wax, I prefer to use a tacky and cooler wax consistency when waxing the body such as under arms, legs and arms to have more control and more comfort for the client. The wax should be able to stay on the spatula without dripping too much. I normally grab my wax from the center of the pot when I prefer it cooler. I pull wax from the edges of my wax pot when I prefer a thinner and warmer temperature wax, like for eyebrows. I always test the temperature of the wax before I apply it to the client.

3. Include Brazilian waxing into your menu of services

Yes, the client is fully exposed, but trust me when I say, you will be focused on the hair…all day long. Which direction is the hair growing, is there any hair left, is the hair long enough, etc.

4. Educate your clients

Jamie Plaia recommends, to get the most out of your waxing service it is important to educate your clients on what they can be doing at home. Exfoliating the skin before your wax appointment will ensure effective removal by sloughing off the top layer of dead skin cells and unclogging the pores. Use a gentle exfoliant that pairs well with your skin like an unscented scrub, loofah, plus a chemical exfoliant with salicylic acid is the basis to preparing for a successful wax. But do not over-exfoliate, as this can damage your skin or make the skin over sensitized which could be a waxing contraindication.

Don’t exfoliate the day before, day after or the day of your service as you may irritate your skin.

5. Prepare the skin prior to waxing

It is very important to prepare the skin properly before waxing.

If you simply apply wax to the skin with no preparation, bacteria may be present, hair may be left behind and the waxing process may be more uncomfortable. Plus, the process of preparing the skin before waxing is the perfect time to check for the direction of hair growth, smooth the hair in one direction and to check the skin closer for any contraindications.

Always cleanse the skin first to remove any oil, makeup, or bacteria. Cirépil Blue Lotion Cleanser is right for the job. Oil is superior to powder by helping the wax release easily from the skin and creating a protective barrier between the skin and the wax making for an almost pain free experience for the client while leaving the skin healthy.
