1. Different temperature wax for different body areas
Salon owner and highly experienced waxer, Jamie Plaia, says
‘While using hard wax, I prefer to use a tacky and cooler wax consistency when waxing the body such as under arms, legs and arms to have more control and more comfort for the client. The wax should be able to stay on the spatula without dripping too much. I normally grab my wax from the center of the pot when I prefer it cooler. I pull wax from the edges of my wax pot when I prefer a thinner and warmer temperature wax, like for eyebrows. I always test the temperature of the wax before I apply it to the client.
My favorite wax for Brazilian waxing is Cirépil Blue, it’s the best and perfect for anybody area. I love Boudoir for the legs and underarms. I remove the wax slightly tacky for fine hair and I let the wax set a second longer for dense and coarse hair.’
2. Service time
Jessi Watkins makes some very good points.
She says, “While scrolling through social media, one concern appears rather frequently in waxing groups, timing. How can I speed up my services? When fellow estheticians are touting seven-minute Brazilians, it’s very easy to feel inadequate. No waxer begins by performing a seven-minute Brazilian wax. While seven minutes may be on the extremely speedy side, a fifteen-minute Brazilian takes practice, as well. Truly, the only way to quicken your pace and perfect your strip placement and application is with practice. Your client may appreciate a quick service; however, most will appreciate the fact that you care for their well-being. Waxing is a skill that, like anything else, improves with time and practice. It is important to be patient with yourself and continue to explore education, products, and techniques.” Get educated!!!
3. Include Brazilian waxing into your menu of services
Quick service. Low overhead. High rewards. Due to feelings of embarrassment, some estheticians forego the intimate waxing arena. In the words of Elsa, let it go. Yes, the client is fully exposed, but trust me when I say, you will be focused on the hair…all day long. Which direction is the hair growing, is there any hair left, is the hair long enough, etc.
Estheticians who specialize in Brazilian waxing take pride in making the client feel at ease while offering a pain-free and speedy experience that brings clients back every month. From personal experience, I can tell you that every vagina is the same while being totally different. One is not better than another, just different. Mastering Brazilian waxing will reap financial rewards for you and your clients will be thankful.
Using a hypoallergenic wax like Cirépil Boudoir or Cristalline that are formulated for sensitive skin will help by offering a more comfortable experience and the best results.
Start by offering a basic bikini wax. Once you feel comfortable, confident and your speed is up to par, add Brazilian waxing. Remember, fast doesn’t mean that it is done well. You cannot do fast what you cannot do well. Focus on technique and your time will gradually become shorter. We all know Brazilian waxing is barely touched on in school, be sure to master your skillset with hands on education.
Perron Rigot offers the best hands-on education in the industry.
Perron Rigot Institute has extremely high quality hands-on Brazilian classes utilizing the #1 wax, Cirépil, it’s a great place to upgrade your waxing skills.
4. Educate your clients
Jamie Plaia recommends, to get the most out of your waxing service it is important to educate your clients on what they can be doing at home. Exfoliating the skin before your wax appointment will ensure effective removal by sloughing off the top layer of dead skin cells and unclogging the pores. Use a gentle exfoliant that pairs well with your skin like an unscented scrub, loofah, plus a chemical exfoliant with salicylic acid is the basis to preparing for a successful wax. But do not over-exfoliate, as this can damage your skin or make the skin over sensitized which could be a waxing contraindication.
Don’t exfoliate the day before, day after or the day of your service as you may irritate your skin.
5. Prepare the skin prior to waxing
It is very important to prepare the skin properly before waxing.
If you simply apply wax to the skin with no preparation, bacteria may be present, hair may be left behind and the waxing process may be more uncomfortable. Plus, the process of preparing the skin before waxing is the perfect time to check for the direction of hair growth, smooth the hair in one direction and to check the skin closer for any contraindications.
Always cleanse the skin first to remove any oil, makeup, or bacteria. Cirépil Blue Lotion Cleanser is right for the job. Oil is superior to powder by helping the wax release easily from the skin and creating a protective barrier between the skin and the wax making for an almost pain free experience for the client while leaving the skin healthy. Cirépil Pre Depilatory Oil is best, but only one drop and always blot. The skin is then ready for the wax to be applied.
